Rishabh Pant, the Indian cricketer, is reportedly set to feature in the inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), which begins on August 17 with both men’s and women’s competitions. Although the Purani Delhi 6 team has picked Rishabh Pant, his eventual availability will depend on his commitment towards the Indian cricket team.

Notably, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) unveiled the Delhi Premier League a few days ago while announcing Virender Sehwag as its ambassador. The draft for the six men’s and four women’s teams was also conducted.

Apart from Rishabh Pant, the Purani Delhi 6 team also picked Ishant Sharma, adding immense star power to their squad. Harshit Rana, who has been a part of the Indian cricket team on their tour to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, is expected to play for North Delhi Strikers, subject to availability.

Rohan Jaitley, the President of the DDCA, said, “The India players' eventual availability will depend on their commitments to the national team. However, Rishabh consented to be placed in the draft for now.”

Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag addressed the importance of the T20 leagues propping up in India and around the world. He said, “In our younger days, we used to only think of playing for India or Delhi. Now, the young generation wants to play T20. These leagues will help them get noticed.”

“This DPL will help you get noticed. But to grow as a player, you will have to play four-day cricket. Like IPL is a basis for selection for Indian team, DPL will also do the same for Delhi team,” he added.
