The Indian squad will compete against Morocco in World Group-II in the Davis Cup over this weekend in Lucknow. Morocco will enter the match unseeded and with a lower nation ranking of No. 55 than the Indian squad, which is a seeded team and has a ranking of No. 40.

In addition to Sumit Nagal, who is presently rated No. 156 in the world in the ATP tennis rankings for men's singles, India's team will be led by tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna. Rohan Bopanna, the world's seventh-ranked doubles player, has been in great shape this year, winning the Qatar Open and Indian Wells Masters, and finishing runners-up at the recently concluded US Open 2023. 


According to Bopanna, who made his Davis Cup debut in 2002, the match against Morocco will mark his last Davis Cup appearance. The 43-year-old in his exclusive interview with PTI revealed the importance of playing Davis Cup. 


Rohan Bopanna to play only Doubles match with Bhambri


India’s Davis Cup fixture against Morocco will take place on September 16-17 at the hard surface court at Mini Stadium in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. Sumit Nagal, Sasikumar Mukund, Digvijay Pratap Singh, Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri, Ramkumar Ramanathan make for the six-member squad for Davis Cup World Group II stage. 


Davis Cup competition, which consists of four singles matches and one doubles match will have four singles and a doubles game. The team that triumphs in at least three of these contests will claim the tie. The winner of this fixture will move on to the World Group-1 play-off.
