Team India captain Rohit Sharma and his deputy Shubman Gill will be seen attending additional practice sessions before their team’s Champions Trophy 2025 final contest against New Zealand to be played at the Dubai International Stadium on March 9. Gill has looked in fine touch with his bat in the tournament so far, hitting 157 runs in four matches with an unbeaten ton against Bangladesh in India’s opening game. Talking about Rohit Sharma, he has batted aggressively as a opener in the initial overs of the game but has struggled to convert the fine starts into big scores.
On March 7, India had an intense practise session but a day before the final, Rohit and Shubman arrived late for the practice session as they took part in the stiff training session at the ICC Academy much before their other teammates began their preparation. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also accompanied both mainstay batters and observed their preparations. In the last couple of games, both star openers struggled with their bats but the same can’t be continued in the final as they understand their mistakes might make India pay heavy cost.
Gill dismisses Rohit’s retirement talks
Ahead of the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025 game, talks of Rohit’s retirement are reigning. However, his deputy Gill has said Rohit is currently focusing on winning the game against the Kiwi side in the final. He added that his senior colleague will make the decision after the summit clash but there isn’t any such discussion in the team, thus far.
“Rohit Bhai would not be thinking about it at the moment. I think once the match ends tomorrow, he will make a decision. There is no talk about it within the setup,” said Gill.
