The Indian women cricket team suffered a shocking defeat against Australia in the Commonwealth Games' gold medal match as the silver medallists fell short of nine runs on Sunday. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had to settle with silver despite looking strong to win the game at one stage.
The match turned out to be thriller after Harmanpreet Kaur & Jemimah Rodrigues' stand in the second innings which put Team India in a commanding position. However, Australian bowlers held their nerve till the last as they inflicted couple of wickets at quick interval towards the end of the game to prove their authority in the game.
The match stayed relevant till the last over as gradually Australian women cricket team firmed their grip in the game. Megan Schutt and Jes Jonassen turned the game on their side as they dismissed four of Indian women batters in the last two overs and clinched gold. As the match was getting intense and heading to its conclusion, not only Indian cricket fans were hooked to the TV sets but also the Indian men's cricket team followed the Commonwealth Games in final in Florida closely.

Meanwhile, Indian men's cricket team defeated West Indies in the fifth and final of T20I on Sunday to wrap up the series 4-1. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were rested for the final game. Dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya was named stand-in captain of the side.
