Ravichandran Ashwin, the premier off-spin bowler, who was a part of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign of India, recalled the emotion of the players after India lost the final by six wickets to Australia. The 37-year-old stated that he felt bad seeing the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cry after the CWC 2023 final defeat.

The final of the ODI World Cup 2023 was played in front of a jam-packed crowd on November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It saw the Australian cricket team achieve their sixth CWC title after getting the better of the hosts India in a one-sided match.

During an interaction with Subramaniam Badrinath, the former India cricketer, on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin was quoted as saying, “We felt the pain in the dressing room. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were crying. Seeing that felt bad for everyone.” Notably, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, along with the Home Minister Amit Shah, paid a visit to the Indian dressing room after the CWC 2023 final’s defeat, to cheer up the visibly emotional players.

The ODI World Cup 2023 had the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play a pivotal role in securing 10 wins in a row for India before the loss against Australia in the final. During the 11 matches in the flagship tournament, Kohli scored 765 runs at an average of 95.62, including three hundreds and six fifties, while Rohit smashed 597 runs at an average of 54.27 with one hundred and three fifties.
