Sudhir Gautam, popularly recognised in Indian cricketing circles as a die-hard Sachin Tendulkar fan, has allegedly been abused and beaten up by the Bihar police in Muzaffarpur district on January 20. The news is coming to the fore on Saturday and it is being learnt that the incident happened when Sudhir had gone to visit his cousin Kishan who is in police custody.

In a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramnaresh Paswan, the 40-year-old has stated that a duty officer started abusing him and when he opposed it, he was beaten up. The incident is all the more shocking as it happened in the same police station which he had inaugurated a few years ago as a celebrity guest.

The DSP has assured that proper action will be taken against the policemen responsible for Sudhir's assault.

A report carried out by News18 confirms that Sudhir silently moved out of the police station after the incident but later filed an official complaint. The report claims that despite being a known and popular face, he was treated in the worst way possible.

If such an incident can happen to me imagine how the police would deal with general public: Sudhir

"A few years ago, I, as a celebrity, was called to inaugurate the new building of the police station. But, today I was beaten up at the same police station. When such an incident can happen to me, then how the police would have dealt with the general public, it is understandable," Sudhir’s complaint to DSP read.

The media reports further suggest that Sudhir had no personal angst against the police or the other way round and it was only a case of the Tendulkar fan visiting his cousin who is in custody due in relation to a land dispute case. It is being reported that a conversation between the two led to the assault of the said individual but the exact details of what exchange happened between the two is not yet out.
