Defending champions India have kick-started their South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championships 2022 campaign with a dominating 3-0 victory over Pakistan on Wednesday at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu.

With the win against Pakistan, Indian women's football team extended their unbeaten run to 27 matches in the SAFF championships. This is the sixth edition of the championships as India have won all the previous five fixtures.

Indian forward  Dangmei Grace, who plays for  Uzbekistan’s FC Nasaf Qarshi, and midfielder Soumya Guguloth, who plays for Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb, scored a goal each for the Indian side after Pakistan's captain Maria Jamil Khan scored an own goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.

The Blue Tigresses will next play Maldives in the SAFF women's championships 2022 on September 10 while Pakistan are scheduled to face Bangladesh on the same day.

A total of seven teams are participating in the ongoing championships that include, Nepal, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Pakistan. Nepal are the hosts and the seven teams are divided in two groups as the Group A includes India, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Pakistan while the Group B includes Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.

Top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage in the SAFF Women's Championships 2022.
