Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan is likely to get a place in India’s squad that will tour England for the upcoming five-match series to be played from June 20 to August 4. As per a report from PTI, Sudharsan’s inclusion in the squad is almost certain for the crucial red-ball assignment with Rohit Sharma announcing his retirement from cricket on May 7. Sudharsan has looked impressive with his bat recently. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he is the highest run-getter for GT while in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, he amassed 304 runs for Tamil Nadu with a hundred and fifty in four innings of three matches. Noting his current form, former India coach Ravi Shastri advocated for the left-handed batter’s inclusion in India’s team that will tour England.
Sai Sudharsan, who has already debuted for India in white-ball cricket, has been decent in First-Class matches. In 49 innings of 29 matches, he has scored 1957 runs with seven hundreds and five fifties. With Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement, he can be seen in a role of an opening batter along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
India will face the uphill task of winning Test series in England after 18 years
India will have to be disciplined against hosts England in the upcoming five-match red-ball competition. The English side looked sensational and won their first Test series in New Zealand after 17 years while India put up miserable performances in their previous red-ball assignment in Australia.
Noting the difference of form between both sides, the English team looks favourite to win the series but Team India fans have kept their hope high from their side. It was 2007 when India last won a Test series on English soil. Under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy, India won the three-match series by a margin of 1-0. It was India’s first series victory in English conditions for the first time after 1986.
