Sam Kerr, the captain of the Australian women’s football team, reportedly called a police officer “stupid white b******” in a dispute over taxi fare in London, on January 30 last year. It has also been reported that the Chelsea player was sick in the cab after a night out before she made the alleged comment towards the police officer.

Just a couple of days ago, on Tuesday, March 4, Sam Kerr pleaded not guilty to the racially aggravated harassment of the police officer during the plea and trial preparation hearing at Kingston upon Thames Crown Court. Therefore, the 30-year-old is set to face trial at the Wimbledon Magistrates Court in London, in February 2025.

The legal team of Sam Kerr will be heading back to court on April 26, to try and avoid the trial scheduled for next year. If they are unsuccessful, the four-day trial, ordered by Judge Judith Elaine Coello, will commence, where the two police officers are expected to give evidence concerning the case.

The charge on Sam Kerr involves her “intentionally causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to the male PC under section 31(1)(b) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. If the Australian is convicted in court, she could face a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment.

Sam Kerr is currently out of action for Chelsea women’s football club after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during their warm weather training camp in Morocco in January of this year. Moreover, Chelsea have refrained from commenting on the incident involving her and the police officer in London from last year.
