Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan was named in the squad for the second Test against England on Monday, January 29 after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul unavailability. With England going 1-0 up in the five-match Test series, the second Test is scheduled to be played from 2-6 February at the Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Soon after his maiden India call-up, S arfaraz was quick to react as he reposted Suryakumar Yadav’s post on Instagram. It is to be noted that his Mumbai teammate Suryakumar Yadav was among the first to congratulate. Sharing an Instagram story which feature the in Mumbai kits, SKY wrote, “Happiest here. Man India call up. Utsav ki taiyaarrii karo”. Khan was quick to react as he reshared the post with the song ‘Aashayein’ from the movie Iqbal.

Not only this, but even Sarfaraz Khan’s father, Naushad Khan reacted on his son’s maiden India call-up. Khan thanked MCA, BCCI and NCA selectors and all supporters for picking the 26-year-old. In a video going viral, Naushad said, “I would like to thank everyone especially the Mumbai Cricket Association where Sarfaraz was nurtured. Along with it, he also expressed gratitude to NCA where he got experience. I would also like to thank BCCI for trusting in his abilities, selectors and all his supports for praying for him."

It is to be noted that Khan, who has been knocking the doors of BCCI since long, has come to fruit with his recent stellar show for India A in the unofficial four-day Test against England Lions. The 26-year-old scored 161 off 166 deliveries, with his innings including 18 fours and five sixes, helping India A to win by 16 runs.

Speaking of his numbers, in 45 red-ball matches, Sarfaraz has scored 3912 runs at an average of 69.85, which includes 14 centuries and 11 fifties. In the 2019-20 season of Ranji Trophy, the 26-year-old amassed 928 runs at an average of 154.66 to become the fifth highest run-getter in the tournament.
