The Saurashtra Cricket Association has launched an inquiry after liquor bottles were procured from the luggage of their U-23 team at the Chandigarh airport. The Saurashtra u23 squad were travelling back after beating Chandigarh comprehensively by a margin of nine wickets in the CK Nayudu Trophy 2024.

As the team boarded their Indigo flight, a routine customs check at the cargo division revealed that five of their players were carrying a significant amount of  liquor with their kits. These players were  Prasham Rajdev, Samarth Gajjar, Rakshit Mehta, Parshwaraj Rana, and Smitraj Jhalani.

Alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable: SCA

Specifically, 27 bottles of liquor and two cases of beer were confiscated from the kits. Hence the customs authorities immediately contacted the Saurashtra Cricket Association and asked them to take further action. SCA then released a statement deeming the incident as 'intolerable' and confirmed that the board would  take proper disciplinary action.

“There has been an alleged incident at Chandigarh that was brought to notice of Saurashtra Cricket Association. The alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics/Disciplinary Committee & Apex Council of Saurashtra Cricket Association to make in-depth examine of the incident and shall take proper disciplinary action,” the statement said.
