May 1’s contest against the Rajasthan Royals side, a team much more powerful and in form, and significantly better placed was a key one for Delhi who had been keenly seeking redemption after gruelling losses sustained to other powerful outfits such as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and before that, the Punjab Kings. Therefore, it’s only natural to presume that the mighty fine win that the touring Delhi side that played at Jaipur was such a desperately needed success at a point of time where each and every team competing in the Indian Premier League is playing out of the skins to secure points for qualification in the Playoffs.

The KL Rahul assisted batting triumph was a confidence inspiring and morale bolstering achievement of sorts for the Delhi side

And something that under fire captain Axar Patel would have deeply desired.

But rather well intently and emotionally, the win was dedicated to someone rather special and incredible by the Delhi Captain.

Their win over Rajathan Royals aka RR was dedicated to the two young lives lost recently in New Delhi. And in what was a tremendously well meaning gesture, Delhi captain Axar Patel paid considerable tribute to the victims of the recent hit and run case that sadly took place in the national capital.

A truly regrettable episode that A school student of class 10 grade and his cousin, studying computer science in the Vivekananda university were victims of a treacherous and ghastly hit and run incident as the young duo were returning from the DC v PBKS last weekend.

Sadly enough, they had spoken to their father minutes before being run over by the truck that quickly abandoned the scene that they’d soon be returning home.

However, that was never to take place

Against that sad narrative and run of events, Axar Patel dedicating the important triumph of the team to the deceased shows that life is after all, bigger than cricket and that human suffering and tragedy are tended to by concerned hearts and caring souls such as all of the Delhi team management put together.

The two young lives lost were ardent cricket fans and DC supporters. They were part of the DC IPL fan unit called the Dilli Toli. They shall be missed for times to come and our thoughts are with their friends and family for times to come.

A very heartening gesture that by the Delhi captain!
