One of the most recent and exciting contests that happened in the celebratory and exciting world of the Indian Premier League was the contest between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals, the 2nd and the 7th ranked teams. Both sides entered the game looking at it as a serious opportunity to collect 2 useful points for from this point onwards, every single point matters perhaps all that more especially since the top 6 sides, at this time in particular, are competing for a spot in the IPL playoffs. Rajathan all the more and Delhi, perhaps not all that much! And that’s down to the simple reason that given their sense of competitiveness and game awareness, Rajasthan have looked far more competitive and been operating with that lethal edge as opposed to Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals looked at the May 1 or shall we say, the game on the opening day of May with a sense of more keenness to bounce back.
And in the end that’s precisely what happened, didn’t it with Delhi containing the dominant Rajathan challenge.
But a key aspect both prior to the start of the contest as well for the initial part of play of the contest revolved around one particular batter. And that’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi. It had been seen up to that point that Suryavanshi, the attacking and aggressive left hander had been smashing the best bowlers in the IPL with a sense of carefree abandon and rock solid confidence.
It wasn’t taking him all that hard to get off the mark against the best bowlers with an impactful shot
But against the Delhi Capitals, on May 1, Suryavanshi didn’t really have a welcoming or a prolonged stay at the middle. He would be sent back on his way not long after he arrived into the middle.
The heroics belonged to Kyle Jamieson and the big wicket was that of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Riling up the left hander with a perfect almost toe crushing Yorker, the lanky BlackCaps cricketer Kyle Jamieson struck in his very first over to get rid of the dangerous batter who insofar had made run scoring look like an easy art.
But so aggressive were Jamieson’s ways of celebrating the big wicket that it costed the bowler far too much!
A line overstepped with the wicket? Turns out that his own captain of the Delhi side, Axar Patel, too has been left disappointed for the overzealous show of emotion as was the case with Kyle Jamieson and the cricketer and the right arm bowler has been reprimanded by the BCCI for displaying the over the line celebrations.
The tall bowler has been handed one demerit point by the BCCI for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during a May 2026 match against the Rajasthan Royals. While the punishment is fair and just, it could be said that given Suryavanshi was such a huge wicket, Jamieson’s reaction, though over the top, was harmless and not intended to cause dismay.
