Major League Soccer side Inter Miami have successfully signed another European superstar, Sergio Busquets on a free transfer. Busquets’ contract with Barcelona expires next month and the star player will now join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. The 34-year-old had announced in May that he will be leaving Barcelona after the end of the season.

Busquets received offers from Saudi Arabia but the midfielder has chosen to reunite with his old teammate for a financially inferior deal. Busquets and Messi spent 13 seasons together at Barca from 2008 to 2021 winning three Champions Leagues, eight La Liga titles, and six Copa del Reys.

Inter Miami announced the signing on its social media with a video that had quotes from legends describing Busquets. The video had messages from former Spain manager Vincente del Bosque who said, “You watch the game you don’t see him (Busquets), You watch him, you see the whole game.” It also included quotes from legendary midfielders Xavi Hernandez, Luka Modric, Barcelona legend Juan Riquelme, and Lionel Messi.

Former Spain captain Busquets played 722 matches in total for Barcelona - the third-most appearances in the club's history. Over his 15 years with the senior team, he scored 18 goals and provided 40 assists. Busquets retired from international football earlier this year.

The duo could also be joined by another Barcelona player as Jordi Alba is heavily linked with a move to the club. The left-back has also announced that he will leave the Catalan club on a free transfer as it was mutually agreed between the club and the player to terminate the contract one year earlier than it was due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season.
