Spanish footballer and Sevilla defender Kike Salas has found himself in a trouble as he has recently been arrested by the police over his alleged involvement in an illegal betting case. The 22-year-old has been investigated for deliberately seeking to book several La Liga matches in the 2023-24 season. Notably, Salas was one of the most controversial players in that season with seven yellow cards.
The seven yellow cards Kike Salas received in the La Liga 2023-24, came in the last nine games in that season. Salas’ La Liga club Sevilla also stated that they are still collecting further information on this matter. Spanish police detained Salas on the club’s premises after the training and was later released after being questioned. However, if the allegations are proven right, Salas might have to serve three years in prison.
Kike Salas alleged for delibarately earning yellow card in La Liga 2023-24
A court in Seville opened up an investigation into one player and two other young men who were alleged to be a part of the illegal betting scheme. As reported in Bein Sports, Kike Salas has been accused of delibaretely getting yellow cards during the 2023-24 La Liga season to spot fix. A source also said that La Liga will "request participation as a plaintiff in the legal proceedings".
La Liga also came up with an official statement on this matter and said that they would ask to join the investigation as a damaged party if it led to a lawsuit. “Every year, La Liga provides players with compulsory integrity workshops, in which they are explained and informed about these issues, so that they are very clear about what they can and cannot do," La Liga was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
