Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are undoubtedly the best opening pair going around in the world of cricket at the moment. The duo has stitched countless memorable partnerships for Pakistan and Thursday (22 September) was another such day for the two. But Rizwan and Babar took their partnership a notch higher against England in the second T20I.
After England posted a hefty 199/5 on the board on their 20 overs, it seemed the Men in Green will find it hard to chase the total. But what followed was beyond everyone’s imagination. Not only Pakistan chased down the total but they did it in grand style winning the match by ten wickets. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam put on a massive 203-run partnership for the first wicket and took the team home.
Azam returned to form in style as he scored his second T20I century (110* off 66 balls) while Rizwan scored a 51-ball 88. Eventually, it was a win for the Men in Green with three balls left. With Pakistan registering such an emphatic victory, their fans and players were chuffed to bits. Shaheen Afridi who is currently in rehabilitation also lauded his captain and his partner for their outstanding performance.
However, it was not a plain tweet. Afridi instead took a dig at the trolls who have been criticizing the pair’s strike rate lately. “I think it is time to get rid of Kaptaan @babarazam258 and @iMRizwanPak. Itne selfish players. Agar sahi se khelte to match 15 overs me finish hojana chahye tha. Ye akhri over tak le gaye. Let's make this a movement. Nahi? Absolutely proud of this amazing Pakistani team,” tweeted Afridi.
