Star Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi scripted history for his country on Tuesday, December 10. Afridi became the first bowler from his country and fourth overall in the list to take 100 wickets in all three formats of the game. Afridi achieved the feat during Pakistan’s first T20I of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa. During the game played at Kingsmead in Durban, Shaheen recorded impressive figures of 3 for 21 in four overs.
With his three-wicket haul in the series opener, the young bowler completed his 100 wickets in the shortest format. Notably, Shaheen made his international debut for Pakistan in Karachi on April 3, 2018. Since his debut, he has recorded 116 wickets to his name in 31 Tests, 112 wickets in 56 ODIs and 100 wickets in T20Is.

With this achievement, Afridi joined the likes of New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga to become the only fourth bowler in the world to do so. Notably, Southee has picked 389 wickets in Tests, 221 in ODIs and 164 in the shortest format. On the other hand, Hasan has 246 wickets in Tests, 317 in ODIs and 149 in T20Is. Malinga, on the other hand, has recorded 101 wickets in Tests, 338 in ODIs and 107 in T20Is.
During the game against South Africa, the Pakistani bowler dismissed Rassie van der Dussen on the third ball of the match. Later, he took down David Miller for 82 runs off 40 balls. With this wicket, Afridi surpassed the record set by his father-in-law Shahid Afridi, who scalped 98 wickets in the T20Is. Shaheen became the third bowler to take 100 wickets in T20Is when he dismissed Nqabayomzi Peter.
