After registering a historic series win against Pakistan, Bangladesh will eye to continue that momentum as they take on India in a two-match Test series, followed by three T20Is. While the two neighbouring nations will first lock horns in a two-match Test series, starting September 19 in Chennai, their star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan is set to join the side directly in India. Moreover, the veteran cricketer is set to miss the training sessions in Dhaka ahead of the India tour.
As per a report published by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director, Nazmul Abedin confirmed that the veteran all-rounder will skip the practice session in the home country and will directly join the side in India ahead of the tour. “Shakib will come to India from England to play. For now we know this much and we want to keep it that way,” BCB Director said. “There is no injury problem as far as I know. Hopefully the whole team will be available. Shakib has gone to play County and I am hoping everyone else will be available. From September 9, the whole team is expected to practice in full swing,” Nazmul Abedin added.
Shakib Al Hasan joins Surrey for Country Championship ahead of India tour
The veteran Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan on Sunday, September 8 confirmed his move from Somerset to Surrey for the upcoming County Championship. The 37-year-old will be available to play in the County Championship match against Somerset, starting Monday, September 9 at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.
Notably, this decision from Surrey Cricket Club comes after eight of their players are currently featuring in the third and final Test between England and Sri Lanka and are also part of the T20I series coming ahead. The Director of Men’s Cricket at Surrey, Alec Stewart opened up on Shakib’s inclusion in the side adding, “When the opportunity to bring a player of the quality of Shakib to the Club came along it was an easy decision to make. We’ve been aware for a period of time that this fixture was likely to be one where we would have significant number of players away on England duty and, in particular, missing two of our spinning all-rounders.”
“Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey,” Alec Stewart further added.
