The Copa America 2024 has chosen the Colombian superstar and singer Shakira to perform in the official anthem of the league. During a TelevisaUnivision event in New York City, Shakira revealed that her song ‘Punteria’ has been chosen as the official anthem for the showpiece event, which is set to take place from June 20 to July 14, 2024.
Shakira has collaborated with the sports event previously too when her chartbuster song ‘Waka Waka (This time for Africa)’ was the official anthem of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Due to its association with the global sports event and the quality of the music, it became a global hit as soon as it was released and it turned out to be one of the most successful songs by Shakira.
Four years later, Shakira also performed for Brazil World Cup’s official song, ‘Dare (La La La)’. However, this time, the song wasn’t made particularly for the event, instead it’s a song from Shakira’s album, ‘Las Mujeres Ya no Lloran’ (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which also features the American rapper Cardi B.
The Copa America 2024 is set to take place in the United States of America, which will only be the second time in its history. The tournament, which will be played from June 20 to July 14, 2024, features sixteen teams where games will be played in some of the most significant stadiums in the country. For the initial days, the tournament will run concurrently with the T20 World Cup 2024, which will also take place in the USA and the West Indies.
