Shenzhen was set to enter the Wanda Diamond League this season, as the one-day athletics tournament returns to China for the first time in four years. The meeting will be hosted at the Bao’an Stadium which has a 40,000-capacity. The stadium also hosted football at the 2011 Summer Universiade. This will also be the 11th Wanda Diamond League in China, with Shanghai having been a part of the calendar from 2010 to 2019.

The return of the traditional Shanghai meeting was postponed because of the planned modernisation of the city’s two major stadiums. This renovation was delayed during the pandemic, and hence the city wouldn’t be able to host the Wanda Diamond League. Shenzhen will be the 12th meeting in this year’s Wanda Diamond League.
