Shikhar Dhawan, one of the best white-ball openers of his generation, batted through the innings for India Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 clash against Australia Champions at Headingley in Leeds. The left-handed batter hit a scintillating 91 not out in just 60 balls with 12 fours and one six, to play a key role in helping India Champions put up a formidable score of 203/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In a must-win contest to keep their hopes alive of making the knockout stage of the WCL 2025, India Champions were put into bat first by Australia Champions captain Brett Lee. For the opening wicket, Shikhar Dhawan and Robin Uthappa shared an impressive partnership of 57 runs in just 5.1 overs before the latter lost his wicket to Dan Christian, but he had scored 37 off just 21 with three fours and three sixes.
After Dan Christian got the better of Ambati Rayudu for zero in two balls, Shikhar Dhawan took charge of the India Champions innings. Despite wickets of Suresh Raina and captain Yuvraj Singh falling cheaply at the other end, the left-handed batter kept the scoreboard moving in the right direction for India Champions with boundaries at regular intervals.
Yusuf Pathan scored 52* off 23 for India Champions in WCL 2025 clash
He was joined by Yusuf Pathan in the 13th over of the innings, and these two batters took down the Australian Champions bowling attack, accelerating the run rate considerably in the death overs. Yusuf Pathan scored an unbeaten 52 runs in just 23 balls with three fours and four sixes, to ensure that India Champions went past 200-run total in the last over of their innings.
Shikhar Dhawan and Yusuf Pathan ended up sharing an unbeaten stand of 100 runs, to put India Champions in a commanding position against Australia Champions.
