On Friday, December 6, India suffered a batting collapse after winning the toss and opting to bat first at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide in the pink-ball Test of BGT 2024-25. While Mitchell Starc cleaned up last-match centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal on a golden duck, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul stitched a crucial partnership to steady the innings. However, neither of them could extend their stay as Starc continued his pink-ball dominance as he dismissed KL Rahul, followed by wickets of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill to put India on the backfoot.
With Tea being called in, Indian scoreboard read 82/4 after 23 overs. Among all the batters, ofcourse Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket proved to be an early jolt in the innings, Virat Kohli, who boasts of most Test centuries at the Adelaide Oval, could not stay for long as he was beaten by Mitchell Starc’s short of a length delivery, departing after having scored seven runs off eight deliveries.
However, Kohli silenced his critics after scoring an unbeaten century in the second India innings of Perth Test last month, he once again registered a low score, departing after scoring just seven runs in the first innings of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Seeing this, fans hit out at the batting stalwart, stating that he “should retire with dignity”, while some were patient, hoping that he will come out good in the next innings.
