On Saturday, May 24, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced star Indian opener, Shubman Gill as the new Test captain in Test cricket. With the India cricket team preparing for a massive transition in the longest format after retiements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, Shubman Gill was named the Men in Blue’s 37th Test captain.

While his appointment will mark a new era in the Indian cricket, Shubman Gill will be seen leading the new-looking side for the highly-anticipated five-match Test series against England, scheduled to commence from June 20.

With the Indian Test captaincy gone through several phases since the country’s onset in the longest format, the country has seen legendary figures, including the likes of CK Nayudu, Kapil, Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mansoor Ali Khan Patudi and many more.
