On Saturday, April 19, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets to go to the top of the points table in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. On the back of Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 97, GT chased down a tough target of 204 runs in 19.2 overs, with four balls to spare. While this win came at a crucial moment in the league for the hosts, the GT skipper Shubman Gill was handed a blow.
In the match, the Titans were found guilty of maintaining slow over-rate and as a result their skipper, Shubman Gill was penalised for the offence. As it was GT’s first offence in the ongoing edition of the tournament, he was fined INR 12 Lakh under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates with minimum over-rate offences.

“Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 35 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the statement from IPL read.
With the, Shubman Gill joins the likes of Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Rajat Patidar and others in the slow over-rate offence. Speaking of the Gujarat-based franchise, GT are currently placed at the top of the ten-team points table with five wins from seven games. They have 10 points to their name and will be hoping to maintain their winning streak as they move ahead.
In their next match, Gujarat Titans will face the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, April 21. The side will next travel to Jaipur to take on Rajasthan Royals on April 28 before returning home to faceoff Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 2.
