Manav Suthar is the newest name who has wreaked havoc in the international cricketing scenario for India. The 24-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner made his debut during the one-off Test against Afghanistan earlier in June this year, and immediately went on to make an impact. He became only the eighth Indian cricketer to take a wicket in the first over of his debut Test match. However, it was just the beginning. After finishing the Test with impressive figures of 6/33 in the first innings and 1/29 in the second, Suthar went on to add another feather in his cap during the first Sri Lanka Test.
In the first Sri Lanka Test, the Rajasthan spinner continued his form and finished the first innings with the figures of 4/76. In the second innings, he claimed figures of 6/55 to record a ten-wicket haul to become the youngest Indian cricketer to record a ten-wicketer in an away game. Overall, the youngster has picked 17 wickets in the first two international matches of his career, earning a place for himself in the second Sri Lanka Test, which the Indian team requires to win. Who is Manav Suthar? India’s Newest Spinning Sensation
Manav Suthar, who hails from a small town of Rajasthan- Sri Ganganagar, Suthar is a classical left-arm orthodox spinner. The 24-year-old is known for deceiving batters by varying his pace, and is also a competent lower-order left-handed batter. Suthar made it to the headlines during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season when he picked 39 wickets in six games at an average of 20.33. He also finished as the highest wicket-taker of the season for Rajasthan, and ended up with a couple of fifties in the same season.
Suthar was picked for the 2023 ACC Men’s Emerging Cup and finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker of the contest with 10 wickets in five games. He averaged 19.50 and maintained an economy rate of 4.21. Later, in the 2024 season, he was bought by the Gujarat Titans, and could only play one game. He was once again picked by the Titans ahead of the 2025 season, and has played five games since then.
