As per the reports, Shubman Gill, the Indian opening batter, has been released from the travelling reserves squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, due to a disciplinary issue. The 24-year-old is reportedly rumoured to have spent time away from the Indian cricket team and indulgence in a side business, which had led to his departure from the USA.

Apart from Shubman Gill, his Indian teammate Avesh Khan will also be heading back home after the conclusion of the Group A matches in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the national team in the USA on Saturday, June 15. Only two of the four travelling reserve squad members, namely Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, will be heading to the Caribbean with the Indian team during their Super 8 campaign in the tournament.

Notably, Shubman Gill wasn’t spotted in the stadium cheering for India against Pakistan unlike his fellow travelling reserve squad members Avesh Khan, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed. It led to the Republic reporting that Shubman Gill has been released from the Indian T20 World Cup 2024 squad due to a disciplinary issue.

On the other hand, a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan were supposed to stay with the Indian cricket team only till the USA leg of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. That’s why, after India takes on Ireland at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in their upcoming Group A match, they will be released from the squad.

There have been further reports of a potential rift between the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the media. It has been revealed that Gill had unfollowed Sharma on his official Instagram account, sparking rumours of not everything is seemingly right between the two of the biggest stars in Indian cricket.
