India is currently playing a multi-format series against West Indies, which started with a Test game on Wednesday, July 12, in Dominica. The squad for India’s tour has made several changes, as the Men in Blue has handed Test caps to young Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The team has many promising names, who will surely hit big runs for the Indian side across all the formats.
One such name is Shubman Gill, who has become India’s ray of hope in desperate times. Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has compared Gill with India's great Virat Kohli.
During the West Indies vs India first Test, Chopra, who was a part of the commentary panel said that Shubman Gill is a replacement for India legend Virat Kohli post the latter's retirement. The cricketer-turned-commentator said, “Shubman Gill will take Virat Kohli’s place in the India side once Virat retires.”
Speaking of the first-day game at Windsor Park in Dominica, Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and decided to bat first. The visiting side took on the field and displayed sheer dominance right from the beginning. The Rohit Sharma-led squad ended the Caribbean innings at 150 in 64.3 overs, all thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-wicket haul and Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket haul.
