Almost a month-long tour of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka came to an end after the third T20I, which was played at R Premdasa Stadium, Colombo. Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka included two Test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is, with the test series commencing from June 17, 2025. Sri Lanka dominated over the guests in the red-ball contest and ODI series defeating them by a tally of 1-0 and 2-1 respectively.
But, in the T20I series the visitors had the upper hand as they won the final game. While chasing a target of 133 runs, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets and 21 balls remaining, to end their Sri Lanka tour on a good note. Key performer for the guests was off-spinner Mahedi Hasan, who struck his first scalp in the second over and didn’t let Sri Lanka batting settle after the wicket of Kusal Mendis. Mahedi ended up taking four wickets and a Player of the Match award. In the run chase, it was Tanzid Hasan 73*, which led Bangladesh to victory after the first ball strike by Nuwan Thushara.
Keeping the length tight worked well for Mahedi Hasan in third T20I vs Bangladesh
Sri Lanka batters were in tatters in front of Bangladesh bowlers, specially Mahedi Hasan. In all his four wickets, he kept the length constant, pitching the ball between good length and full length. Kusal Perera and skipper Charith Asalanka, both in a similar manner tried to defend late by going at the back foot and could not understand the delivery. The top-scorer from the Sri Lankan side was Pathum Nissanka, who scored 46 runs from 39 balls. Apart from him Kamindu Mendis (21 off 15 balls) and Dasun Shananka (35* off 25) were the only ones who could get a double-digit score.
During the chase, first ball wicket of Parvez Hossain Emon jolted the Bangladesh batting. But, it was soon stabilised by Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das (32 off 26 balls) by a partnership of 74 runs, the latter has also been awarded as the player of the series (POTS) for his aggregate 114 runs in the T20I series. After Litton’s wicket fell, Tanzid shared the match-winning partnership of 59* with Towhid Hridoy, to seal the deal for Bangladesh. They turned around the situation from 1-0 down to win a three-match T20I series after defeating West Indies the same way seven years ago.
