Sri Lanka Cricket has announced 20-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Dasun Shanaka has been named the skipper for the side which boosts likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dinesh Chandimal.

The 2022 edition of Asia Cup, which was earlier scheduled to take place in the island country, has been moved to UAE. The tournament is set to begin on 27 August with the final set to be played on 11 September in UAE only.

The Sri Lanka cricket board has finally named 20-member squad after a delay of 12 days. It is to be noted that the delay in the announcement of the squad was done due to the ongoing economic-political crisis in the country. The board had sent the squad to the government but was refused , stating it was sent late.

Talking about the squad, the 20-man squad also stars the young IPL prodigy ‘Baby Malinga’ Matheesha Pathirana. The other prominent faces in the squad include, Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanidu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Chamika Karunaratne and more.

The tournament, which is set to be played in the T20 format will see six teams play for the coveted trophy. Although the five teams have been finalised in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, one of the teams from Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and UAE will join after the qualifiers.
