After two consecutive wins in the ODI World Cup 2023, the Sri Lankan team registered two successive losses, which came against Afghanistan and India. While they lost against the Afghans by seven wickets, India registered a dominating 302-run win over the Lankans in their last match.

Following this 302 runs defeat against the host nation, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly demanded for urgent and comprehensive explanation from the entire coaching staff and the selectors. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the apex body has asked for explanations post the shocking defeats, thus raising eyebrows in team’s preparation, strategies.
“Sri Lanka (SLC) has expressed its deep concern and disappointment over the performance of the Sri Lanka National Team during the ongoing World Cup 2023, particularly the disappointing loss against India yesterday. In light of these concerns, SLC has called for an urgent and comprehensive explanation from the entire coaching staff and selectors,” stated SLC in a statement.
It is to be noted that apart from the sloppy performances in the ODI World Cup 2023, the Sri Lanka cricket team has been marred with several injuries. While their skipper Dasun Shanaka was the first to be ruled out of the tournament and followed with injuries to Matheesha Pathirana and Lahiru Kumara. However, the side replaced the above-mentioned by Chamika Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera, respectively.
The Kusal Mendis-led side will next take on Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on November 6, Monday.
