Sri Lanka Cricket offers BCCI to host the remainder of IPL 2021 in September

AS SLC are planning to host the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in July-August and therefore, the grounds and other infrastructure will be ready for the IPL in September.

After the 14th edition of Indian Premier League was suspended after 29 matches due to COVID-19 outbreak in various franchises, various boards are now putting themselves in the fray to host the remainder of the tournament. While Emirates Cricket Board has already given UAE as an option, some of the English county clubs also offered to host IPL 2021 in UK.

SLC enters the race to host the remaining 31 matches

While BCCI could potentially endure a loss of INR 2500 crores if the tournament doesn't resume, they are hence looking at the September window to conduct the remaining 31 matches. With the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in India making it difficult for BCCI to resume the tournament in the country, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have now come ahead and have offered to host the remainder of IPL 2021.

SLC chief of the managing committee, Prof. Arjuna de Silva said, "Yes, we can certainly provide a window to host the IPL in the month of September. We hear the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is their one option but Sri Lanka can not be ignored for all reasons,” as quoted by Cricwire.

The 55-year-old also added that they are planning to host the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in July-August and therefore, the grounds and other infrastructure will be ready for the IPL in September. One of the most famous T20 leagues have taken place in South Africa and UAE before and it will be interesting to see if IPL will find another new home in the form of Sri Lanka for the remainder of the season.
