Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday, February 12 announced its 16-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. While the two Asian cricketing nations are currently locking horn in the three-match ODI series, with the hosts comfortably clinching the series with a match to spare, the two sides will begin the three-match T20I series in Dambulla, starting February 17.
Ahead of the three-match T20I series, Sri Lanka have named their squad which also saw the inclusion of Dushmantha Chameera, however the cricketer is recovering from an injury he sustained during the ODI series. Seeing this, the board has named Binura Fernando as his replacement whereas the side also stars key players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendia, Angelo Mathews, Wanindu Hasaranga among others.

Wanindu Hasaranga (C), Charith Asalanka (vc), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, Maheesh Theekshana, Akila Dananjaya, Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera*, Binura Fernando*
*Dushmantha Chameera has been selected but will not feature as he is recovering from the injury he sustained in the ODI series. Moreover, Binura Fernando has been named his replacement.
Afghanistan also name 16-man squad for three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka
Furthermore, Afghanistan has also named their squad for the T20I leg of the tour. While the side will continue to miss Rashid Khan, in his place, Ibrahim Zadran will continue to lead the side. Adding to their woes, the Afghans will also miss the service of Mujeeb Ur Rahman after he sprained his right phalanx (hand) ahead of the ongoing ODI series.
21-year-old seamer Mohammad Saleem Safi also misses out from the squad for the T20I series due to hamstring strain. However, Wafadar Momand has been called in as Safi’s replacement in the side.
