India won the first ODI by 67 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Sri Lanka put on a fight but a tad too late. Dasun Shanaka fell alone in the fight and had to see his team falling short of the target set by India. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka will back themselves to bounce back in style as they did in the T20I series. Meanwhile, India will look to seal the series when they take on Lanka at the Eden Gardens. Rohit Sharma will have his eyes lit, considering his amazing record at the venue.
The Eden Gardens track is considered as one of the better batting surfaces although spinners tend to come into action as the match wears on. With a lightning-fast outfield, batters will wait for their chance and will look to score as many runs as possible. Meanwhile, bowlers will have to stay extremely consistent with their lines and lengths.
India put on a near-to-perfect performance in the first ODI and won the game by 67 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided them a solid start, putting together 143 runs for the first wicket. Virat Kohli then outshone everyone as the star batter scored a century, his 73rd in international cricket. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer also played quick cameos. With the ball, Mohammed Siraj made early inroads while Umran Malik spit venom in the middle overs. Mohammed Shami also chipped in with an important wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal also scalped one wicket. Axar Patel was the only bowler to go wicketless. With almost everyone performing, India will once again start as favourites.

Sri Lanka had a day to forget, especially with the ball. The Lankan bowlers could not back their captain’s decision to bowl first as they could not pick a wicket for almost 20 overs. They conceded 373 runs in 50 overs. Then with the bat, Sri Lanka lost early wickets as Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis fell prey to Mohammed Siraj. Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva did stitch a half-century partnership, but the job was too far from done when they got out. It was all on Shanaka and the Lankan skipper tried his best. He continues his dream run against India and scored a century but could not take his team home. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka are expected to bounce back in the second ODI.
