Following Australia’s exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, veteran Steven Smith has announced retirement from ODI cricket. The right-handed batter kicked off his 50-year career in February 2010 and in 15 years of his stint for the Aussie team, he produced numerous exceptional knocks from his bat.

Smith, who is one of the key stalwarts in Team Australia, didn’t look consistent with his bat in recent times in white-ball formats of the sport. In the absence of the regular captain Pat Cummins, Smith held the reins of the side in the Champions Trophy 2025 and did his job efficiently as skipper. In the semi-final against India in Dubai, he struck a fine half-century but that wasn’t enough to halt the Men in Blue. On the occasion of Smith’s adieu from ODI cricket, it’s essential to revisit his scintillating records in the format.

Steven Smith's ODI records

Smith played 170 ODIs for Australia in his 15-year international career. He scored 5800 runs in 154 innings with 12 hundreds and 35 fifties. In December, he hit 164 off 157 deliveries against New Zealand in Sydney and recorded his best ODI score.

In Australia’s fifth World Cup title victory in 2015, he played a vital role with his bat and ended up as the leading run-getter for his side. He smashed 402 runs in seven innings of eight matches at a strike rate of 91.57 and concluded the tournament as the sixth-leading run-getter in the marquee ICC event. In the semi-final against India in Sydney, he notched up 105 off 93 and guided Australia to a convincing 95-run win. Australia lifted the World Test Championship (WTC) mace under Pat Cummins' leadership after beating India in the final held at the iconic Oval in June 2023. Smith made an important contribution with his bat, scoring 121 in the first innings.
