On Saturday, May 24, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets in the match 66th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After getting a big target of 207 runs to chase down, DC batting lineup put up a splendid collective performance, headlined by the youngster Sameer Rizvi, to help his team finish on the winning side.

However, the win for DC was a consolation one, seeing them finish at the fifth place in the IPL 2025 standings, PBKS were held back as they eyed a top of the table finish. However, the match did not go in favour of the Punjab-based franchise, a new controversy has erupted from their recently-concluded match after the side was denied six runs.

Preity Zinta slams third umpire over controversial call in PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 match

Hours later after the conclusion of the match, Bollywood actor and co-owner of the PBKS, Preity Zinta questioned the third umpire’s decision after her side was robbed of a six. After a fanpage on X with the username GemsOfCricket shared pictures of Karun Nair pointing out at it to be a six, another user wrote, “it was a DC vs PBKS match. Karun nair tried to save a six on the boundary line but after saving he confirmed that it was a six. Then third umpire checked it and it wasn’t a six”.

While it went viral in not time, it also caught the eyeballs of the PBKC co-owner, who later took to X and replied writing, “In such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case!”

Elaborating on the incident, the moment occurred in the 15th over of the first innings. On the final delivery of the over, bowled by Mohit Sharma, Shashank Singh went to hit towards the long on. Karun Nair, who was stationed near the boundary role at long on region, tried to flick the ball back inside, but found his feet touching the rope. In return, he quickly signalled it for a six. To further clear the doubts, the decision was referred to the third umpire, Chris Gaffaney, who dismissed it for a six and PBKS received a single run.

Speaking of the match, a defeat for PBKS led them to miss the golden opportunity to climb to the top of the points table. They currently sit at second place with 17 points to their name from 13 games. In their final league stage match, which is scheduled to be played on Monday, May 26 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, they will take on Mumbai Indians.
