Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has reportedly signed up for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 player auction. Raina has set up his base price for over INR 41 lakhs ($50,000) in the auction that is all set to take place on June 14 in Colombo. After announcing his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, along with former India captain MS Dhoni, Raina retired from the Indian Premier League in September 2022.

The former Chennai Super Kings player was featured in the Abu Dhabi T10 in December 2022 as a part of the champion team Deccan Gladiators. The 36-year-old cricketer ended up scoring only 36 runs for his team in the tournament. Raina also played in the Legends Cricket Match this year and was part of the commentary box during the Indian Premier League 2023 edition. Speaking about the tournament, this will be the fourth edition of the league and it will have an IPL-style auction for the first time.

According to The Papare Sports, a Sri Lankan media outlet, Raina has been signed for the auction of the upcoming tournament at the base price of USD 50,000. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that over 500 players, which includes 140 overseas cricketers have registered for the player auction. The tournament will be played from July 30 to August 20 and five teams will participate in the auction, with each team having $500,000 to spend.

Other than Suresh Raina, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and South Africa cricketer David Miller are among the stars who will feature in the LPL 2023.  Apart from Suresh Raina, cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan is the only Indian cricketer to feature in the Lanka Premier League. Pathan was part of Kandy Tuskers during the LPL 2020.
