With the next major assignment for the Indian cricket team being the Men’s Asia Cup, the members of the side are currently undergoing routine fitness tests in order to prove their eligibility for the marquee tournament. The continental tournament is scheduled to be played from September 9 to 28 in the UAE in the T20 format.
The defending champions, Team India are placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Oman and the UAE and will begin their campaign on September 10 against the UAE. But ahead of the tournament, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has a daunting task to name the 15-member squad.

However, the announcement is set to come on Tuesday, August 19 with the BCCI selection committee scheduled to meet in Mumbai, the Men in Blue have received a massive boost ahead of it. Team India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who was rehabilitating at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru after undergoing a surgery for sports hernia in Germany, has cleared his fitness tests.
The Indian batter, who last appeared in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with the Mumbai Indians (MI) has reportedly been adjudged fit to play the Asia Cup. "Fitness tests are mandatory before Return to Play (RTP) post-surgery. Surya has cleared the fitness test," a BCCI source told PTI. The 34-year-old will be leading the side in the continental tournament after he took over the reins from Rohit Sharma after the latter announced retirement from T20Is following India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.
