Switzerland Tourism announced India’s track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra as their Friendship Ambassador on Monday, September 4. Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World Champion, was bestowed with the honour because of his achievements. The 25-year-old athlete, who is known as India’s ‘Golden Boy’ became the third javelin thrower in history to hold both the Olympic and World Championships title.
The Indian achieved the feat after he became the only Indian athlete to win the world title in Budapest in August 2023. In a media release by Switzerland Tourism, the head of global partnerships, Pascal Prinz said, “We are honoured and delighted to celebrate India’s sports legend, Neeraj Chopra.”
The statement further read, “Neeraj is paving the way and inspiring an entire generation. For us at Switzerland Tourism, we are extremely happy with our association with Neeraj as our ‘Friendship Ambassador’ in India. We heartily congratulate him on his world championship and wish him the best for his future endeavours.”
Notably, After winning historic gold for India in the World Athletics Championships, Chopra competed in the Zurich leg of the Diamond League, where he stood second, and qualified for the final leg. Chopra will now aim to lift the trophy on September 17 in Eugene, USA.
