Preview

India registered a historic win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening fixture of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Blue defeated the Men in Green by four wickets, courtesy of a historic knock from Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, the Netherlands suffered a defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in a close-fought encounter to kickstart their Super 12 campaign. Now, the Dutch have the tough task of battling against a full-strength Indian side. It will be challenging for the Men in Orange to put up a fight against the top ranked T20I side. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to watch how the two teams go about their business.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is considered a good batting wicket. An example of this was seen during the match between Australia and New Zealand. The track does not offer the bounce of Gabba or the raw pace of Perth, but it aids spinners enough which can trouble the batters to some extent.

Team Analysis

India

India had a terrific outing against Pakistan in their first game at the T20 World Cup 2022. The game was all about Virat Kohli sealing a perfect win for the Men in Blue and avenging their defeat from last year. But apart from Kohli, ten others played on that day. While Kohli overshadowed anyone the other day, there were some other good performances as well. To start with, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided the perfect start with the ball. Singh took three wickets including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Mohammed Shami also did a top job to contain the flow of runs and also took Iftikhar Ahmed’s wicket. Hardik Pandya was good too with the ball taking three wickets in his four overs.

With the bat, India had a disappointing start with both openers falling cheaply yet again. Suryakumar Yadav also could not do much. Axar Patel could make no use of his promotion, but Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli did the required job. In the end, Ashwin hit the winning runs. But the opening pair failing yet again in an important game will be an issue for India.

Netherlands

Netherlands failed to clinch the important moments and lost their opening fixture of Super 12 to Bangladesh by nine runs. Nevertheless, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. Paul van Meekeren, Tim Pringle, and van Beek put on decent bowling performances for the Dutch and will be expected to trouble Indian batters. With the bat, Colin Ackermann put on a show as the batter scored a 48-ball 62 with van Meekeren also chipping in with a 14-ball 24. However, he could not seal the victory for his team. Vikramjit Singh, Max ODowd, and Bas de Leede not firing hurt the Netherlands a bit which they would like to change against India.
