The first round of the T20 World Cup has concluded with Zimbabwe and Ireland clinching the final two spots in the Super 12 stage. The Zimbabwean team registered a famous win against Scotland by five wickets thanks to top performances by Sikander Raza and captain Craig Ervine. They started off the fixture with a strong bowling performance as they restricted the Scots to 132 in their 20 overs.
Then in the second innings, Zimbabwe also had a similar start but Ervine and Raza steadied the ship and took the team over the finish line with a five-wicket victory. They will now join Group 2 in the Super 12 stage with teams like India, Pakistan, etc. Whereas in the other game of the day, two-time World Cup winner West Indies were defeated by Ireland by nine wickets.
The Windies continued their slump of form at the Bellerive Oval as they managed to score just 145 runs in their 20 overs. Brandon King was the top performer as he scored 62 in 48 balls but didn’t receive any support from the other batters. Then in the second innings, it was the Paul Stirling show as the veteran batter scored a scintillating 66 in 48 balls and carried the Irish to a nine-wicket victory. Now Ireland will join Group 1 teams like England, Australia, etc.
