Temba Bavuma has already made giant strides for his Protea national cricket team especially where it comes to the leadership duties in the classic or long form cricket.
Not the tallest of cricketers going around but someone with the courage and heart of a blue whale, there’s a sense of integrity, honesty and bravery about Bavuma, who’s already 35.
He’s already hit four centuries along with 24 fifties for the South African Test unit, one to which today he perhaps just as important as is the role of a yorker specialist to a fast bowling tearaway.
But it’s his calm and thinking leadership and ability to extract the best out of his troops that has earned him the respect of his contemporaries and from cricket’s far flung geographies.
So how does Temba Bavuma’s Test record as captain appear?
What is rather emphatic and brilliant to note is that while Bavuma has only led the Proteas in no more than 9 Tests, he’s won 8 of those contests.
Surely, one could argue that his leadership abilities were missed by South Africa when they faced a stern challenge of India over a year ago in the past.
But to elaborate more on Bavuma’s leadership in Tests, as captain he has drawn just 1 Test match.
What’s most important here is to note that thus far, he’s not lost even a single game.
This incredible win percentage of 88.8 percent has already earned Bavuma noted fame as South Africa captain and earned comparisons with legendary Test captain Percy Chapman of England.
Moreover, as the Test captain and batsman, he’s scored ably and fluently earning a batting average of 60.9 in the most recent World Test Championship cycle from just 7 appearances.
That’s just the kind of performance and impact that the Proteas would welcome in the high octane final against the mighty Australians in the WTC mega event.
