The ongoing Madrid Open 2025 was hampered after a massive power outrage hit the European countries. A massive power blackout struck Spain, Portugal and parts of southern France, leaving millions without electricity, and crippling mobile networks. Seeing the blackout, the matches of Madrid Open at the Manzanares Park Tennis Center were also suspended.
Speaking in detail, the power went out at 12:34 pm local time, stopping two ATP singles matches and one doubles match that were being played. Later, all 22 matches scheduled for the day were forced to be called off due to this power outrage.

American tennis player, Coco Gauff, who was preparing for a shower after her 6-4, 6-2 win over Belinda Bencic in her Round of 16 match was also caught up in the dark. “So I just had to take baby wipes and wipe myself and spray some perfume and call it a day,” Gauff later revealed.
Earlier during her post-match chat, the interview was cut off due to power outrage. She later posted an Instagram story which showed only the emergency light working in a dark room. The ATP also shared a ststement which read, “The cut is preventing the use of electronic line calling systems and also left a spider cam dangling over the court inside Manolo Santana Stadium.”
The tournament organised also informed of the situation stating, “had no choice but to suspend/cancel all sporting activity in order to guarantee the safety of the players, fans and personnel.” However, they later confirmed that the play will resume on Tuesday, April 29 as the power was restored in Madrid later in the day.
