Dallas Mavericks guar d Kyrie Irvin g blamed New York mayor Eric Adams for his poor stint with the Brooklyn Nets. Irving joined the Nets in a blockbuster deal alongside Kevin Durant to create a new powerhouse in the East. Soon former MVP James Harden also joined the duo but the franchise failed to reach any NBA finals and reached the conference finals once.

Through the entirety of this tenure, the team and especially Kyrie Irving were caught in countless controversies. Among the biggest was regarding Irving's refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine in the 2021-22 season.
Kyrie Irving blames Mayor Eric Adam for poor Nets' tenure
This decision directly opposed Mayor Eric Adam's mandate of requiring everyone in indoor venues to have a COVID-19 vaccine. So Irving had to miss 29 games in the 2021-22 season. Hence when a Nets fan asked, "Kyrie why don't play like this when you were on the Nets?" Irving replied, "Thank Mayor [Eric] Adams for that, bro."

Are we talking about a different legacy?: Kyrie Irving
After the the game which ended in the Mavericks' favour, thanks to the 2016 NBA champion's 36-point performance, Kyrie Irving was asked about his legacy with the Nets. Irving further spoke about a handful few moments that tarnished what could have been an amazing team alongside Kevin Durant and James Harden.
He said, "If I didn't get injured vs. the Bucks, do I still ask for a trade? If KD's foot wasn't on the 3-PT line, are we talking about a different legacy here? If James doesn't ask for a trade... all the woulda, coulda, shoulda, hopefully after this night we can just put that to rest."
