American tennis star Coco Gauff had an incredible run in the 2022 Roland Garros as she reached the summit clash of the contest against world no. 1 Iga Swiatek where she finally succumbed. The 18-year-old lost 6-1,6-3 in the final as her Polish opponent registered her 35th straight win.
After the final, Gauff posted a heart-warming message addressing her run in Paris and assured her fans that she will bounce back even stronger. The American posted a picture on Instagram with a caption that said, “these past two weeks have been filled with so many emotions and i am so grateful for this moment. thank you to everyone for all of the support. grand slam finalist…. i’ll bounce back. ps: tournament is not quite over for me yet… doubles final tomorrow allezzzz.”
“I hate myself for crying,” Gauff
Similarly, the American won a lot of hearts with her speech after losing the final, where she joked about how much she hates crying as everyone in her camp was emotional with the loss. “I'd like to thank my team. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get this one today,” Gauff said while holding her tears. “But thank you for always supporting me. Hopefully, this is the first final of many."
“Even when I was down match points, you guys were still cheering me on. That means a lot. So truly, thank you. The tears just come,” she said. “I try really hard not to cry on the court, and I knew whether I won or lost. I feel happy really and sad, I don't know how to handle it,” she continued.
She had said that after the match, her little brother was crying and she felt bad because as she tried to tell him, "It's just a tennis match'. I'm like, 'Why are you crying?' I'm like, 'I'm crying too, I know. Everybody's crying'. My physio was crying, and I was like, Jeez.”
However, Coco Gauff along with her doubles partner J Pegula lost 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 in the Women's Doubles final on Sunday.
