Despite Melbourne Cricket Ground approved Mankad dismissal as valid and genuine mode of dismissal, the controversy over its authenticity is far from over. During Melbourne Renegades versus Melbourne Stars match in the Big Bash League 2022-23, A dam Zampa showed great presence of mind when he dislodged the bails in a flash as Renegades batter Tom Rogers was backing out too far.

After Deepti Sharma divided the cricket fraternity by running out one of English batter in 2022, Melbourne Stars' skipper Adam Zampa has done exactly the same.

While Zampa appealed for the dismissal, the TV umpire deemed it 'not out' as the bowler's arm had gone past the 'vertical' - the point where the ball is deemed to be bowled. The incident triggered the debate surrounding the dismissal again, which is widely seen as taboo because many feels it's against the spirit of the game. However, Melbourne Stars head coach and former Australian batter David Hussey claimed that if the batter was given out, the Stars would have withdrawn the appeal.

Meanwhile, veteran Indian all-rounder Ravi Ashwin, who has been involved in the controversial mode of dismissal for more than once lashed out at the former Australian batter stating his statement as an 'embarrassment' for the bowler.

“First of all, why should you withdraw the appeal? A bowler is running the non-striker out. The captain will say that the bowler is wrong or what? What a big insult is to the bowler if the captain is withdrawing the appeal," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

The Indian cricketer also admitted that if he is standing there as a bowler and appealing for this dismissal, and if the captain and coach withdraw the appeal, is 'very insulting. Ashwin added, "One you do that, as a bowler, you will feel that what is the point in bowling when your team is not backing you? My team captain and coach themselves are not backing me. Why should I bowl and win you the game then?"

The Indian all-rounder concluded by saying, "The bowler will feel depressed once you do that. And David Hussey was like 'This is not how you play cricket.' Sir, this is now how you want to play cricket. But for that, you can't assume and say, 'This is now how you should also play cricket. This is absolutely wrong."
