
Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo redeemed himself on Sunday as he played an instrumental role in notching up a thrilling victory for Manchester United over Everton on matchday 10 of the English Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday. The 37-year-old who was going through a tough time professionally as he found himself warming the bench for Manchester United, scored his maiden goal of the 2022-23 season and scripted history by achieving an iconic milestone.
After Anthony Martial suffered an injury and had to walk out off the ground, the legendary football was substituted but he didn't take long to open his account. The three-time Ballon d'Or winner pounced on a through-ball from his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro before putting the ball past Jordan Pickford from a tight angle. The excruciating wait for his 700th strike season was finally over. United kept the 2-1 lead intact till the full-time whistle, sealing all three points.
After a historic milestone, Ronaldo took to Instagram and shared a post congratulating the team on an exciting win. "Great win guys! Another step in the right direction! #WeStandUnited," he captioned the pictures.
Even former India skipper and legendary batter Virat Kohli commented on Ronaldo's post as he wrote, 'The GOAT.' Apart from Virat Kohli, even Manchester United manager Ten Hag paid tribute to Ronaldo after the match.
"That is really impressive. To score 700 goals is a huge performance. I am really happy for him. I congratulate him on that performance, and I am happy as it's his first goal this season in the Premier League. He had to wait for it and I'm sure there will be more goals," Ten Hag said.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli too recently scripted history by notching up his much-awaited 71st international century and by becoming the second-highest Indian run-getter across all formats by overcoming Rahul Dravid.
The 33-year-old will be part of the Indian XI which is all set to take on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne in their T20 World Cup opening clash. The legendary cricketer was rested from Team India's practice match against Western Australia XI at the Western Australian Cricket Association Ground in Perth on Monday.
Team India will also play warm-up games against Australia and New Zealand in the build-up to the T20 World Cup.
