One of the greats of the game and former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni returned to competitive action when the five-time champions took on their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in IPL 2025. While it was MS Dhoni’s first match after last appearing in IPL 2024, his agility behind the wickets once again proved his brilliance on the field.
The 43-year-old, who has time and again showcased his agility in the cash-rich league, he continues to be quick with his movements despite the wicketkeeper-batter underwent a knee surgery last year. During CSK’s match against MI, MS Dhoni produced lightning fast stumping to dismiss stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
There is no wicketkeeper like MS Dhoni, even today: Harbhajan Singh
Dhoni took only 0.12 seconds to dislodged the bails, grabbing several eyeballs. The moment in no time went viral, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who is part of the Hindi commentary panel also lauded the veteran. "There is no wicketkeeper like MS Dhoni, even today. At this age, wicketkeeping like that was lightning-quick,” Bhajji said.
“I feel MI will be sad because they could have batted better. It was the first match. If five or six matches had been played on this pitch, then MI's total could have been a winning one," he added. The moment took place in the 11th over when Suryakumar Yadav tried to play an inside-out shot off Noor Ahmed. However, the India batter misinterpreted it, MS Dhoni made no mistake as he quickly collected it and dislodged the bails.
The 43-year-old later in the second innings, also walked out to bat at number eight. However, he faced only two deliveries, he failed to get runs to his name. “When Dhoni came out to bat, he played two balls, but the entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm,” Harbhajan further said during his commentary stint. The veteran will return to the field when Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday, March 28 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
