Former Team India skipper Sourav Ganguly has decoded where Shubman Gill and Co. lost in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, played at the iconic Lord’s. In the second innings of the third match, Shubman Gill and his men were tasked to chase a low target of 193 to gain a 2-1 lead in the series. However, the visitors’ batting-unit faltered which created pressure on the lower-order batters to stand at the crease and take the game deep. With India reeling at a score of 112-8, Ravindra Jadeja stepped up and stitched a 35-run partnership with Jasprit Bumrah to keep India alive in the chase. However, their partnership went in vain as England dismissed Bumrah and another tailender Mohammed Siraj to bag a 22-run win.
Noting India’s failure in the second innings, Ganguly has said that Gill and his boys missed the golden opportunity to gain a 2-1 lead in the competition. Appearing at an event, he remarked, “A little bit disappointed, yes. The way India batted in this series so far they should have got this 190 (193) and seeing someone like Jadeja fight it out, you know the quality in this batting line-up is absolutely brilliant. I think they'll be more disappointed than I am because this was a real chance to go 2-1 up in the series.”
Former skipper also added that India required a couple of solid partnerships to chase down the target. “They just needed two solid stands. The little fight shown by Bumrah, Jadeja, and Siraj showed the game was still alive," added Ganguly.
Sourav Ganguly commend Ravindra Jadeja’s batting effort
Sourav Ganguly also appreciated Ravindra Jadeja, who has done a fine job as a batter in this red-ball series, thus far. In six innings of three contests, the 36-year-old all-rounder has notched up 327 runs with four fifties. His current average is 109.00.
“He's a special player. He's been around a long time - 80 Tests, over 200 ODIs - and his batting has really grown. He started as a top-order batsman in Saurashtra before becoming a world-class spinner. He'll continue to be a key part of this team,” said Ganguly while praising the veteran.
