Thomas Partey, a Ghanaian international, who played as a defensive midfielder for the Premier League club Arsenal, departed from the side in June this year. Known for his technicality and ability to score bangers from long ranges, Partey joined Arsenal in the year 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a transfer worth €50 million, thus becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player of all time.

But recently, Thomas Partey has been accused of raping two women and sexually assaulting a third, between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation in February 2022 when they first received a report of rape. The first hearing at the Westminster’s magistrate court took place on 5th August 2025. The Ghanaian International appeared to the court wearing black trousers and a black jumper, and was asked about his personal information like name, address and his date of birth. The footballer was granted conditional bail by the judge and was told that he will have to appear at the Old Bailey court again on 2nd September.

Thomas Partey to join Spanish club Villareal: Reports

According to reports by MyLondon, the judge stated to Thomas Partey, "You face six charges, five of which are indictable only, which means they must be sent to the crown court. The sixth charge can be sent if it is a related offence. I'm satisfied it is. In this case [you will be sent to] the Central Criminal Court, you might know it as the Old Bailey, on September 2 this year." Partey’s lawyer said that he “denied all the charges against him” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name."

Partey is now set to land in Spain to join Villareal as a free agent. The 32-year-old will make a return to Spain after spending five successful seasons with Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. The Ghanaian international has previously played for Atletico Madrid in the La Liga. Partey will be eager to perform well for the yellow submarines and play an important role in leading them to a successful campaign in the upcoming season.
