The world is badly hit due to COVID. The outbreak of the virus also affected sports around the globe. The Tokyo Olympics was affected by the virus as it was postponed by a year. Now, after it has been decided that the Olympics will take place as planned, the Coronavirus has found its way into the Olympics camp as well. In a recent development, it has been found out that three athletes have tested positive for COVID-19. Notably, two of these athletes are residing at the Olympic Village. The identities of these athletes have not been revealed yet.
The Games Organising Committee on Sunday made the announcement that three athletes have tested positive for COVID-19. Apart from the two athletes staying at the Village, the third infected athlete is staying at a designated Games hotel. It is also worth noting that it's the first instance of athletes staying at the Olympic Village have tested positive for the virus. Earlier, a non-athlete from the Village had tested positive for the virus and was shifted outside of the premises. However, it has not been made clear whether the athletes staying at the Village and have tested positive will be quarantined somewhere else or not.
A total of ten cases reported
The Organisers also confirmed that a total of ten cases were confirmed on the day, out of which five were “Games concerned personnel”. The COVID-19 positive case list uploaded by the OC also included one contractor and a journalist. Now, the total number of Games related COVID cases have crossed 50 as per the OC records.
The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is all set to begin from July 23. The Indian shooting and boxing contingent have already landed in Tokyo from their respective bases in Croatia and Italy. The Japanese Government has also barred the entry of spectators into the stadiums as the city will be in a state of emergency throughout the event.
